Angela Lansbury Vaino Spencer

Krim is a virologist, fundraiser and lobbyist for AIDS who has not flinched at bold action since World War II when she smuggled guns for theunderground in Europe. Her AIDS work began in the lab, in the early 80's, with research on the use of alpha-interferon to treat an AIDS-related cancer. This soon evolved into her founding amfAR (the American Foundation for AIDS Research) now the preeminent nonprofit AIDS research and advocacy organization, that she chairs. This work, started when she was 55 and has earned her many awards and doctorates honoris causa, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2001.

QUOTE:
"I was most vigorous when I was 50. When I was 30, I could very easily dance all night, and go back to the lab the next morning. I couldn't do that now. But, when I was 30 I was also easily intimidated, very shy and I felt awkward in some social situations. I lost that by the age of 40 and, by the time I was 50, I felt really confident, calm and feeling I could take it... It was a wonderful feeling. It comes with age. And I still have it. I feel very comfortable. "Je suis bien dans ma peau" as we say in French - "I feel well in my skin."
