When Martin turned 85, her art dealer gave her a big white Mercedes to make the drive to her studio in the center of Taos. Even though she lives extremely modestly in a tiny one bedroom apartment, Martin always liked a good car. One of the world's most respected abstract expressionist painters, she still paints daily and her work has never been in more demand. Martin began painting in New York in the ‘40’s and was part of the avant garde circle that included Ellsworth Kelly and Robert Indiana. She has received numerous awards including, the United States National Medal for the Arts and the Golden Lion Award presented at the Venice Biennial.

QUOTE:
"I’m contented. Of course, I’m also rich and famous!! I don’t think I ever was discontented. I’ve claimed that I was happy every day of my life—when I was a child and such. I don’t go up and down. I don’t get ecstatic and don’t get unhappy. If you live in peace you have the greatest chance at being happy."
