Revered as a pioneering giant in the world of performance art, Rosenthals
life has the quality of a modern day swashbuckler. The daughter of
Russian parents, she was raised in France, but fled to Brazil and
eventually the United States to escape the Nazis during World War
II. Although she had been performing for decades, she doesnt
feel that she blossomed until her fifties--after she left her husband.
In her early seventies, she still tours with her own performance company
and is an ardent animal rights activist.
QUOTE:
" I had self doubt all my life. I dont think that I combated
it. Meaning that I didnt approach it head on but I just kept
doing things and then eventually I recognized what I did as being
valuable. The mirroring from the audience was positive, so little
by little it got rid of a lot of the self doubt
I came to realize
that maybe Im not as much a schmuck as I thought I was. I still
always feel inadequate as to what my goals are and what I think would
be ideal in my art." |
